Saturday Sew Like a Pro – Beginners (Intro to Clothing)
This is the perfect sewing course for you if already have some sewing experience and are wishing to create your very first garment and would like some support and guidance throughout the process!
Your first foray into garment making will start with a simplistic tutor selected pattern, that will be worked on together as a class, which will be able to be altered to fit custom measurements.
Over the duration of the course, you will get to experience basic pattern altering, fabric preparation, understanding pattern layout on fabric, following the grain, garment assembly/order of construction, all of which will culminate in the making of your final garment.
The course includes:
• Understanding the core measurements, choosing a size that match custom measurements.
• Following and understanding pattern instructions.
• Simple fit alterations.
• Mini workshops on staple sewing tasks.
• Selecting appropriate fabrics for the pattern with tutor guidance when working with the fabric/s of your choice.
• Using high quality sewing & finishing processes on the final garment.
Learners are expected to be already competent on the sewing machine. There will be a recap on troubleshooting and how avoid common user errors which will include looking at threading, bobbin filling, correct thread tension etc.
*To get the most out of the course some of the work may need to be completed in your own time.
Entry Requirements
For this introductory course learners will be asked to purchase the tutor set pattern (approx. £10) after guidance from the teacher you will be asked to bring in a small length of fabric of your choice (approx. 1-2 metres) and trimmings to make your pattern from (approx. fabric spend £20 or you can source second-hand textiles that can be recycled into new projects).
This course is for learners that have completed the beginner course or who have some experience in sewing having made a couple of simple projects and are looking to develop their skills into garment making.

You can choose to use one of our machines or you’re very welcome to bring your own if you’d like to learn to use it/build your confidence with it, there will be plenty of individual attention from the tutor. Learn to make clothing while making friends at the same time.
This course will take place for 2.5 hours a week for 8 weeks
Class based
This course has no exam but will be assessed by outcome achieved by each learner. The teacher will want you to have made something you love.
